Root canal treatment: Because your own teeth are always the best option.
When the tooth root, which houses the dental nerve, requires treatment, tooth decay is usually to blame. However, a dental injury, or thermal, chemical or mechanical irritation, can also trigger inflammation of the tooth root.
In such cases, root canal treatment (endodontics) – which is now part of our daily practice – can help. We are very keen to preserve your natural tooth structure for as long as possible, because a properly treated tooth is part of your own body and has its own firm place in the jawbone. It can also serve as a support later on, for example if neighbouring teeth are lost.
If a root canal treatment or a revision treatment has not resulted in pain relief, apical resection is the last option for preserving the tooth.
This surgical procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic.
